Letting it sink in: The longer-term impact of a social work short-term study abroad course

Short-term study abroad courses are increasingly common in higher education, but while brief, can deeply impact students’ cultural appreciation and competence. This qualitative explored 17 former Master of Social Work experiences one to two years after completing a course on human trafficking India. Data was analyzed using thematic analysis three themes emerged: Considering my Positionality, Personal Transformation, Taking Action. There were levels taking action: some students found ways use the learning their professional setting, others it encouraged them speak out against injustice, actively engaged form advocacy. Mezirow’s theory transformative used frame explore findings.
